Tucker Students Enjoy Music Dianne Comby, music instructor for Tucker School, sponsored a music enlightenment for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders. The students attended a performance of Peter vs. The Wolf at the MS State University Riley Center in Meridian. The Meridian Symphony Orchestra’s performance was set up as a courtroom comedy based on characters, events, and music of the symphonic tale, “Peter and the Wolf” by Sergei Prokofiev. Mrs. Comby said, “The students had been studying the orchestral instruments and the music from Peter and the Wolf. They became so involved in the performance as the actors asked ‘guilty’ or ‘innocent.’” The forty students and chaperones enjoyed the performance and later had a picnic lunch in Meridian before returning to school. The 5th – 8th graders held the annual Tucker Talent Contest on April 1st. Many children bravely and energetically shared their talents including the following: Raven Comby, Tishenna Anderson, LaTrisha Dixon, Malaney Nickey, Jeremy Henry, Valentay Willis, Anna Willis, Angel Charlie, Akisha Bell, Marayah McMillan, and groups of 5th graders who did the cha-cha slide. While the judges worked to select the winners, all of the school, including students and staff joined together on the basketball court to enjoy the cha-cha slide. As children laughed and danced, 3rd grader Deanna Willis said, “This is the most fun ever!” Winners of the Talent Contest were as follows:1st place Raven Comby singing “Teardrops on my Guitar”; 2nd place Tisheena Anderson dancing to “Excuse Me Miss”; 3rd place LaTrisha Dixon, Malaney Nickey, and Raven Comby singing “With You” Joe Wood, Principal at Tucker School, said, “Mrs. Comby always has an excellent music program at Tucker as she creates diverse opportunities for them to learn and appreciate all parts of the music world. We appreciate her work, and the children love music.”
